Emergency assistance was provided to forced migrants

In the Islamic Cultural Center of Kyiv, help was given to forced migrants and other categories of people in need of material support.

The "Emergency assistance" action was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Council of Ukrainian Muslims with the Human Appeal Australia charity fund.

Help was received by forced migrants from Kherson, Kakhovka, Bakhmut and other cities that remain under occupation or are subject to constant shelling by the Russian invaders.

Activists of the Council of Ukrainian Muslims distributed 220 kits of thermal blankets and pillows on January 21-22, as well as nearly 100 grocery kits, winter clothes, canned stewed meat, first aid medicines, and baby food.

According to Council President Seyran Aryfov, active cooperation with Human Appeal Australia began after the full-scale invasion of the Russians in early 2022:

“Representatives of Human Appeal Australia contacted us to find out what is most needed to support the most vulnerable segments of the population.  Their activities are mainly focused on humanitarian aid.”

Sheikh Seyran notes that most organizations and charitable foundations try to maintain neutrality in relation to countries where war is raging:

“On behalf of the Council of Ukrainian Muslims, we appealed to many benevolent organizations, but most of them, for reasons I do not understand, are afraid to interfere in the military policy of one or another party, considering it politicization.”

According to Amin Al-Qassim, the coordinator of the campaign, in less than a year, several projects were implemented together with Human Appeal Australia — hundreds of people in different cities of Ukraine received help:

“Thanks to the Almighty, despite all the difficulties, we managed to establish good cooperation with our brothers from Australia.  The action in Kyiv, as well as previous actions in other cities of Ukraine, is aclearevidence of this.”

Ismail Kady, director of the Islamic Cultural Center of Kyiv, believes that cooperation with Human Appeal Australia is a good example of brotherly mutual aid and support.  In 2022, as part of the implementation of common programs and actions, hundreds of families mostly forced migrants from the territories occupied by Russia, received financial support.

“Previously, we held "Winter Help" actions, during which we distributed coal to residents of villages in the east and south of Ukraine.  This year, due to the occupation of a large part of these territories, we had to change our tactics.  In these winter colds, with the help of Almighty Allah and good people, help was provided to hundreds of families of Crimean Tatars, primarily the old and poor.  Most of them are internally displaced people”, says Sheikh Ismail.
