Planting Trees of the Eve of Ramadan: Zaporizhzhia Muslims’ Longlasting Charity

22 nurslings of cherries and apricots were planted by volunteers from Zaporizhzhia islamic Cultural Centre around one of the city’s playgrounds on the eve of Ramadan. The Muslims hope that those trees, as tender as the little kids running around the playground, will become strong and spreading, giving people both the shade and the fasty fruit everyone can enjoy in the summertime.

Planting trees, especially fruit trees, is one of charities in Islam, for the person who planted a tree gains rewards for everyone who found shelter underneath it or food from it. The one who planted the tree will get rewards as long as the tree grows, shades and yield fruit. And even when the tree dies, due to advanced age, bad weather or some other saddening situation, it becomes the source of one last charity from the one who planted it: it will keep someone’s fireplace warm.
